Fresno police are sorting out a complicated case that began with reports that someone was photographing children and ended with a postal worker arrested on suspicion of DUI after leading officers on a slow-speed chase that ended at the downtown postal complex.

It began about 7:30 a.m. when police received a call that someone in a pickup was lurking and taking pictures next to an elementary school near Fresno Street and Belmont Avenue. Lt. Burke Farrah said an officer saw a man in a pickup near Belmont and Fulton Avenue and tried to pull him over.

The man drove away, leading the officer toward the U.S. Postal Service yard on the 1900 block of G Street. Other officers joined the chase as a woman in the pickup tried to jump out.

By the time the man drove into the yard, he was surrounded by at least five squad cars. The man was taken into custody.

Farrah said the relationship between the woman and the arrested man was unclear. Detectives also are investigating whether the man was the person suspected of photographing the children.
