Prosecutors on Wednesday dropped a murder charge against a Fresno woman who said she acted in self-defense when she stabbed her boyfriend to death in May.

Rebecca Kerr, 35, recently talked with homicide detectives and “we were able to corroborate [her] statements,” Fresno County District Attorney Elizabeth Egan said in a news release.

“Considering the new evidence developed in the last week, there no longer exists sufficient evidence to go forward,” said Egan, who declined to elaborate.

Kerr’s attorney Glenn LoStracco, however, said his client has never wavered from her contention that she killed 32-year-old Michael Grimaldo in self-defense.

“He attacked her and she feared for her life,” he said.
